"...been wadin' through the high muddy water"
Plundered My Soul
The Rolling Stones

The Stones have remastered their classic album Exile on Main Street, and this previously unreleased song is the first tease off the record. It's a gem, a magnificent example of The Stones at the time - the kind of loose and ragged, full of soul, mid-tempo heartbreak song they could do better than anyone. Mick strains to hit the high notes, his voice nearly breaking at the top, which just adds to the whole impact of the song. Good lyrics too - The smell of rubber and I soon discover that you're gone for good... I do miss your quick repartee and the smile that lights up your face... I thought you wanted my money but you plundered my soul. Keith comes in singing at the end, usually a sign that this is one of his songs. Personally, I can't wait to see what else they've got in the Exile vaults.
